About the work
Inspired by a mood of paranoia in 1960s America, the artist has added surveillance graphics in 24ct gold leaf to this scene in which the subjects sit uneasily between empty desert and brooding sky. Hand-pulled, limited edition screen print created in five layers.
Maxine Gregson is a contemporary artist and printmaker based in Hackney, East London. Often inspired by music lyrics and literature, her work has been described as ‘Nostalgic Futurism’, and brings together typography, photography, grid layering and vintage motifs to create surrealist artworks that feel futuristic yet familiar. The CMYK printing process she favours helps merge old and new elements together to evoke highly emotive visual stories.
