About the work
Gregson trialled three attempts at this vacation-themed photo collage before she was happy with the colours. Vintage postcard and collected elements gain a sharper edge with the addition of brutalist architecture, seen through the golden lens of nostalgia. This piece is an artist proof of a hand-pulled screen print edition created in four layers.
Maxine Gregson is a contemporary artist and printmaker based in Hackney, East London. Often inspired by music lyrics and literature, her work has been described as ‘Nostalgic Futurism’, and brings together typography, photography, grid layering and vintage motifs to create surrealist artworks that feel futuristic yet familiar. The CMYK printing process she favours helps merge old and new elements together to evoke highly emotive visual stories.
