About the work
Allen’s most ambitious project to date, the Grazing Horse series was created in 2019, inspired by the artist’s many trips to view Nic Fiddian Green’s sculpture in Marble Arch, London. Allen loved the profile of the piece, and always returned to his studio with the thought that an etching that captured a similar angle would work well. Etching on paper.
Guy Allen is a talented young British printmaker, draughtsman and artist. Working from his studio on the North Norfolk coast, he brings a uniquely experimental approach to printmaking with an exciting mix of colour, gold leaf, and an original, contemporary take on the traditional art of etching. While studying at Central St Martins from 2008 to 2011, Guy discovered the possibilities offered by the printing press on a trip to the École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Finding an art form that lent itself so perfectly to his artistic aspirations was a revelation, and he has never looked back. Since then he has won a number of prizes, including the Diana Brooks Prize at the Mall Galleries in 2018.
