‘Equine Gold’ is the first etching in which Guy Allen used the stippling technique, which uses a series of dots opposed to lines. It was inspired by a visit to Charlie Fellowes’ yard in Newmarket. The addition of gold leaf brings vitality to the monochrome tones, reflecting Allen’s desire to infuse life into his etchings.
