Guy Allen’s ‘Moon Butterflies’, a large-scale etching enhanced with hand-applied gold leaf, reflects a rigorous process of research and preparation. The precise placement of each butterfly required considerable time and exacting attention to detail. In developing the work, Allen undertook in-depth study of the subject, consulting a lepidopterist in Hertfordshire and spending a day at the Hermitage Museum in South East London to examine a range of butterfly species. The artwork is presented float mounted and framed in white-finished wood.
