About the work
“There are 18 different species of Grouse, the majority of which are found in the colder regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Believe it or not, grouse can reach flight speeds of up to 70 mph.” – Guy Allen
Guy Allen is a talented young British printmaker, draughtsman and artist. Working from his studio on the North Norfolk coast, he brings a uniquely experimental approach to printmaking with an exciting mix of colour, gold leaf, and an original, contemporary take on the traditional art of etching. While studying at Central St Martins from 2008 to 2011, Guy discovered the possibilities offered by the printing press on a trip to the École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Finding an art form that lent itself so perfectly to his artistic aspirations was a revelation, and he has never looked back. Since then he has won a number of prizes, including the Diana Brooks Prize at the Mall Galleries in 2018. This pair of etchings on paper are taken from separate copper plates and marry traditional print-making with a unique, dramatic and poetic image of a wonderful species of bird in flight.
