Robert Longo | Charcoal
Robert Longo is best known for his hauntingly realistic works on paper, and his large scale charcoal drawings. This collection of four prints was released as part of the artist's 2017 edition of the book 'Charcoal.'
The complete collector's edition set is comprised of four ditone prints dated 2017, each signed in pencil, dated and numbered 21/30. Printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth paper, loose (as issued).
The four works feature the US Capitol Building, a group of policemen behind their shields, the ocean under a swinging chandelier, and the rider-less black horse which accompanied the funeral procession of John F. Kennedy.
Robert Longo is a New York-based artist best known for his photo-realistic drawings and works on paper. His drawings and photographs often explore the role of politics and power in our society. In particular, his drawings which are finely crafted with chiseled lines and deep tonal ranges, seem almost three-dimensional, as if they could jump off the page and enter physical space at any time.
Longo's work is highly respected around the world and he has been the subject of retrospectives at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Illinois; and Museum Berardo, Lisbon, Portugal. His work has featured in both the Whitney Biennial and the Venice Biennale, as well as at recent group exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and PS1 Contemporary Art Center in New York.
