In The Picnic Alone, surreal narratives emerge across the vessel’s carved surface. This vase depicts an empty beekeeper’s suit, inviting viewers to imagine themselves in the character’s role. At its centre lies a quiet dilemma: how to respond to the bees disrupting her ‘picnic’? The narrative is deliberately open, prompting reflection on whether to shoo the bees away or allow for a shared space. Encased in small, cage-like skirts, the figures suggest the ways identity transforms under constraint. The tension of the scene and its confined spatiality evoke the challenges of coexisting with nature, encouraging contemplation of how we share the world with other living beings.
