Matthew Lintott
A visual artist specialising in woodcut relief printmaking, Matthew Lintott works out of BRICKS community studios in Bristol. His practice is an exploration of deep time and space, viewed as a collaboration with the past and with the ancient materials he works with. Inspiration comes from myth, symbolism and the geological perspective, informed by cross disciplinary field research in geology and paleobiology. Printing by hand without a press, he uses recurring visual motifs to explore the four classical elements of earth, air, water and fire, creating what he calls "modern relics". These emblems aim to offer the viewer a gateway to the ancient, guided by the belief that looking back can be a catalyst for transformation in the present.
