The first in a series of photopolymer etchings in which Holmes explores Iceland's awe-inspiring terrain, seeking both inspiration and solace amidst its strange beauty and vast expanses. Each artwork within the collection serves as a visual testament to the artist’s emotional journey through a period where creating art became her sole means of self-expression. These pieces mark significant milestones, nadirs, conversations, and losses, collectively weaving a deeply personal narrative marked with her unique perspective and experiences. Rebecca Holmes is a contemporary printmaker with a passionate interest in how places make people feel. The landscapes she depicts are as much psychological as physical, recorded in ink, charcoal and photography, distorted and combined to create locations that speak to our emotions as well as our senses. She makes most of her work in the quiet of the night, using the creative process to calm and align her thoughts. These are pieces that reach beyond appearance and instead reflect nature as an event to be cherished.
