About the work
"The vase shows a continuous narrative of an empty female beekeeper’s outfit, which the viewer can project their own identity into. Her quandary is what to do with the wildlife that is disrupting her ‘picnic’. It is an open narrative where the viewer can take her role and make decisions for her: will she swing her hands to get rid of the bees, or allow them to share her space? The illustration is deliberately confined to represent the 'pressure or tension' in the story, in which the figures are trying to break through the tiny space they live in. Their 'empty cage-like skirts' are a metaphorical hint of their transforming identity."
