A sun warmed harbour scene of whitewashed cottages, rounded trees and a vivid orange sailed boat gliding across pale cerulean water. Fitter's characteristic layering and scraping technique gives the surface a rich, mosaic like quality, while her textile design background is evident in the bold patterning of every element, from the gestural brushwork of the sky to the patchwork lobster pots in the foreground. Warm terracotta, aqua and lavender combine to evoke the unhurried calm of a long June afternoon by the sea.
