Rubik Country Life is a playful collision of two quintessentially British institutions: the Rubik's Cube and Country Life magazine. Invader reconstructs the iconic imagery of the magazine's celebrated cover format entirely from the coloured faces of Rubik's Cubes, his signature medium. The result is a pixelated mosaic portrait that at once references the glossy world of rural high society and the lo-fi logic of 8-bit digital imagery. As with all of Invader's Rubikcubism works, the piece rewards both close inspection and distance, where the image snaps into recognisable form. It is a wry commentary on cultural codes, class, and the tension between analogue tradition and digital culture.
