About the work
One of Lowry's most iconic Industrial Town paintings, Our Town bears all the hallmarks Lowry was famous for. Swathes of figures frenetically going about their daily lives, set against a backdrop of chimney stacks, billowing smoke and a dense vista of industrial architecture. It is one of the best examples of Lowry's signature limited colour palette of ivory, black, vermilion red,Prussian blue, yellow ochre and flake white. The original painting of the same title, hangs on display at Touchstones Art Gallery, Rochdale, UK Published by Grove Galleries in 1972 and stamped by the fine art trade guild.Signature: Signed in pencil lower right and numbered lower left
