About the work
This contemporary style circular art print is inspired by landscapes and nature with the subdued colours drawn from pebbles on Brighton beach and the blue sky at sunset. The circle acts as a portal-like window into another world. Inspiration has also been taken from the Japanese woodblock printmaking art movement known as Shin-hanga (New prints), which merged together Ukiyo-e traditions from the East with European influences. It is the first print in a series alongside Moon Over The Plain and Midsummer Moon. The piece is hand pulled with screenprint with graphite powder and ink.
Sherrie-Leigh Jones, a Brighton-based artist and printmaker situated in East Sussex, specialises in crafting envisioned landscape prints that derive inspiration from nature, natural phenomena, and the romantic sublime. Influenced by Japanese prints and movements such as Shin-hanga and Sansuiga, her creations encapsulate an idealised portrayal of landscapes featuring mountains, rivers, clouds, and mist.
