Isidore-Jules Bonheur, a renowned 19th-century animalier sculptor, created Le Grand Jockey, a celebrated equestrian sculpture. This masterpiece depicts a triumphant jockey congratulating his horse with intricate detailing in the veins, tendons, muscles and rider's attire. First displayed at the 1879 Salon, it was later exhibited at prominent art events, earning Bonheur a Gold Medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition. Le Grand Jockey was produced in various sizes, with this cast being one of the larger ones.
