Banksias (4) by Kristina Chan is a sculpture made from patinated bronze, featuring four bronze Banksia forms. The Banksia, a genus of plants native to Australia, is known for its resilience and ability to regenerate after fire. This work draws from Chan’s experiences during her 2019 residency in the Blue Mountains, where she witnessed the impact of the Australian landscape and bushfires. The use of patinated bronze, where the metal's surface is intentionally oxidised. It mirrors natural processes such as burning and weathering, highlighting themes of transformation and renewal.
