Kristina Chan’s Banksia (gold) features five bronze forms plated in gold, each representing a Banksia seed pod. Native to Australia, Banksias regenerate after fire, with some needing heat to release seeds. Created during Chan’s Blue Mountains residency, the work reflects on bushfires and nature’s resilience. The oxidised gold surface evokes natural cycles of burning and weathering. This piece is part of a larger series exploring plant forms and finishes like bronze, silver plating, and patinas.
