Kristina Chan’s Banksia is a sculpture featuring five sterling silver-plated bronze forms, each modeled after a Banksia seed pod. Native to Australia, Banksias are known for their ability to regenerate after fire—some even needing heat to release their seeds. Created during Chan’s residency in Australia’s Blue Mountains, the work responds to the aftermath of bushfires and the resilience of the landscape. The oxidised silver surfaces evoke natural processes like burning and weathering. This piece is part of a wider series exploring variation across plant forms and material finishes, including bronze, gold plating, and patinas.
