From Scribbles to Masterpieces: A Guide to Introducing Art to Children
Ready for a Shaun-tastic day out?
Shaun on the Tyne has crash landed at Hancock Gallery. Join in with the interactive art trail taking over the city of Newcastle this Summer.
Shaun the Sheep on the Tyne is presented by, and is raising funds for, St Oswald’s Hospice. The charity has partnered with creative producers Wild in Art, Shaun the Sheep creator Aardman and Newcastle City Council to bring you a ewe-nique art adventure that the whole family can enjoy.
There are 45 large and 70 small Shaun sculptures dotted all over the city and you are invited to take part in the ultimate treasure hunt to find them all. You can download the app and unlock sculptures as you find them, or get a physical trail map and tick them off as you track them down!
Hancock Gallery are really excited to be sponsoring a sculpture this year that will proudly sit outside of our beautiful Georgian townhouse, but the fun doesn’t stop there - step inside to discover a world of art.
What can you get up to during your visit?
Hancock Gallery and Shaun on the Tyne and have something very important in common…a love of Art! Our aim, with a bit of help from Shaun, is to make art accessible to everyone and this Summer we’ve made it our mission to help young budding artists discover the fun and mischief of art.
Located on the first floor of our gallery, we invite you to step into our Shaun on the Tyne experience room. Learn about mischievous artists who have made history, get stuck into our art activities and create your own masterpieces, chill out in our video corner or get a selfie with Shaun and Bitzer. And for the grown ups… you can wander around our three floors filled with art from renowned and emerging artists, shop in our book store or simply watch on while the little ones get creative.
Opening Times
Tuesday - Saturday 10AM - 5PM
Entry: Free
Stair access only.
We do ask that children are supervised during their visit to the Shaun on the Tyne experience room.
“Art is universal… as such it’s an amazingly strong tool for building confidence in all our lives – there is no right or wrong!”
