Contemporary portraiture drawn from fashion and lifestyle
Based in Bristol, UK, Chris Gambrell is an artist and fashion illustrator who creates drawings and paintings which explore form, colour and texture. He has worked with large European fashion houses and featured internationally in fashion magazines and wider press.
In 2020 he was chosen by illustrious fashion magazine VOGUE, to be one of seven artists picked to draw their favourite couture looks from Vogue's Runway archive pages.
With an ever-changing toolbox of materials and media, he explores the process of drawing and painting developing a style which is captivating in its vibrancy and loose aesthetic.
Most recently his work featured as the cover image of the biography of Italian Baroque Artist Artemisia Gentileschi. Written by art critic and writer Johnathan Jones, the book accompanies a landmark exhibition of Gentileschi’s work at the National Gallery in 2019.
The work of Chris Gambrell features in Hancock Gallery's 2020 figurative exhibition titled 'Between Distance and Desire'.
