About the work
The inspiration for this Icelandic collection comes from a fusion of a passion for exploring oriental forms in ceramics, specifically the Korean moon jar, and a recent research trip to Iceland. The journey spanned from the extraordinary lava landscape of the Reykjanes Peninsula to the black basalt sand beaches of Vik in Southern Iceland. This collection reflects the "otherworldliness" of these landscapes through layered glazes while celebrating the purity of the moon jar form. A combination of white porcelain, black porcelain, and black stoneware clays, along with green and blue oxide-coloured glazes, is used to emphasise Iceland's contrasting and dramatic landscapes.
