The Billy Childish Collection
Hancock Gallery is proud to present an extensive and varied collection of Lithographs, rare Woodcut and limited edition prints by one of the country’s most “radically traditional” artists, Billy Childish
These highly collectable editions are available both framed and unframed.
A prolific painter and printmaker, Billy Childish is known for his uninhibited, expressive imagery characterised by a resonant vitality. His early methods of printing were primarily woodcut block printing due its immediacy and physicality. Later methods including etching and lithography, inherently slower-paced mediums requiring several rounds of proofing and re-printing. This more intricate and perhaps contemplative processes resonate with the quiet poetry of the image.
Describing his own work as "not cluttered with worry," Billy Childish's art has a strangely liberating impact on the viewer. The images in this exhibition encapsulate the emotional resonance of Childish's paintings, rendering the depiction of simple and typical moments as powerful and vital works of art.
