Why a home consultation?

Galleries are mostly empty white space and sometimes it’s hard to imagine what a piece of artwork would look like elsewhere. The colour, size, lighting and shape of a room all affect how an artwork will be perceived.

Different clients have different needs. Some people know what piece they want but are unsure if it would fit on the walls in their home. Some are stuck between choosing several pieces but are unsure if it would suit the decor of their home, and some people want art on their walls but don't have any idea of how to get started choosing it.

Why an expert?

The way a surgeon sees a body or a mechanic sees a car, gallerists see space entirely differently to most of us. Light, length, angle, width, eyeline - there’s more than just a white wall to think about.

Does the frame have the right shape and colour?
Is the glass reflective?
How thick is the canvas?

The skill of the gallerist is being able to absorb all this information and find a match. Marrying art and space. It’s something of an art itself.

There is a piece of art to fit any space. A small, awkward length of wall or an old fireplace could soon become the pride of your home or the focal point of your room. The space becomes curated.

Why art by an artist?

The phrase sounds silly but it's a valid question. Why not buy some frames from IKEA and leave the prints inside them, they too are art.

The difference is that they’re designed not only to fit in almost any space, but to sell a frame. Whilst they are pretty pictures, they’re no more special than the cool design on a bar of chocolate designed to sell the chocolate within. These prints have no soul. They don’t reflect the personality of the buyer, they don’t bring a room together, they don’t convey the message or emotion of the artist and they’re probably hanging in a million other houses and department stores across the world.

What about my home?

Does it matter what type of house you live in? No. You don’t have to be a ‘Van Gogh in the bathroom’ and ‘Picasso in the bedroom’ type to own artwork and enjoy its numerous benefits. You could live in the pokiest, dingiest shack and a piece of art would improve the space tenfold.

“Art draws people in, and so when they walk into a room, their eyes focus on the art. By strategically utilising space, it can make spaces appear bigger but more importantly, just more interesting. Every wall has potential.” - Chris Morgan
