A highly anticipated and must-see exhibition is coming to Hancock Gallery, we’re proud to introduce SJ Fuerst. We have been delighted to work with SJ over the past 12 months and finally now get to bring to you 'This is Not a Life Saving Device' an exhibition which features an original collection of oil paintings as well as the artist's first ever limited edition.
SJ Fuerst is one of GQ magazine’s ‘15 best artists working today’ and is internationally celebrated for a surreal - hyperrealistic style. The artist's inspiration ranges from high fashion to inflatable animals, SJ’s work presents a ‘twisted version of the familiar’ tackling real world subjects such as sexism and religion with scenes harmonising the ridiculous and the chic, something which we spoke about in our ‘In the Studio’ chat earlier this year. Working with oils and classical training, Fuerst creates juxtaposition, the canvas whispers renaissance but screams contemporary.
Hancock Gallery and SJ Fuerst are extremely excited to unveil the artist’s first ever limited edition. This highly collectable print is hand signed by the artist and is limited to 20 editions. It marks the first exclusive and exciting opportunity to own something truly collectable by SJ.
Join us for an exclusive preview of this must-see exhibition on Thursday 18th November, the evening will feature live music, canapes, cocktails and champagne alongside conversations with the artist who will be there in person. We’ve also managed to exclusively get a signed artist proof from SJ which we will be giving away to a lucky attendee on the night.
So explore the city a little more, do something different for date night or drinks with friends and enjoy an evening of contemporary art and culture on Thursday 18th November 2021 at our Georgian townhouse location, conveniently a short walk from Haymarket.
The exhibition is now showing at the Hancock gallery, explore the collection first hand online or in our Newcastle location.
