Tell us about your studio.
My studio is in South West London, filled with natural light and just a short walk from home. It's part of a larger building with other artists, so there's always a sense of community.

What's your background?
I’m from Yorkshire and studied Fine Art at Loughborough University, graduating in 2018. After working in styling, with fashion photographers and at immersive events I focused on oil painting. Since then, I’ve worked on commissions for brands like Burlington Arcade and Champagne Bollinger, and held my first solo show in London.

How do you find motivation?
Improvement keeps me going. I study at an atelier in London, practicing traditional still-life techniques. Seeing my work improve is incredibly rewarding and always motivates me to keep pushing forward.

What drives your work?
I’m driven by the need to turn ideas into physical objects. I enjoy combining classical painting techniques with the storytelling elements of surrealism, aiming to create a unique aesthetic that blends both styles.

What song best reflects your work?
‘Bloom’ by Maribou State featuring Gaidaa from the album Hallucinating Love. The song’s evolving, organic feel mirrors the shapes I create in my work, while its minimalist approach and pure vocals transport you to another place.

Where do you draw inspiration from?
I find inspiration in everyday objects and how they interact with people. I enjoy reimagining these objects, changing their context or perspective to create new associations through oil painting. It’s about highlighting the hidden beauty in the ordinary or uncovering mystery through light and shadow.

Which three colours could you not do without?
Burnt umber, earth green, and yellow ochre.

How has your style or subject matter changed?
My work has evolved from complex to simpler, more focused scenes. This shift helps create a stillness that allows viewers to appreciate forms, colours, and shapes more deeply.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Stay curious. Art is always evolving, and the key is showing up each day - whether that’s to study, reflect or finish a painting. Curiosity pushes you to take risks, challenge yourself, and achieve new heights in your work.

Who inspires you?
David Hockney inspires me, especially his playfulness and willingness to experiment with new mediums. I admire how he defies labels and constantly reinvents himself. His work gives me the confidence to explore different techniques and subjects without feeling boxed in.

If you could own one piece of artwork, what would it be?
A Hockney portrait. I love the use of colour, the clean aesthetic, and the silent communication between figures. His portraits are timeless and leave room for interpretation.

Who would be in your ideal group exhibition, and what would it be called?
Artists from art history such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Surrealist artist Dali mixed in with contemporary painters I love like Isy Wood, Tom B White, Lisa Brice, Caroline Walker and Tom Penny. The title would be ‘The act of rising’.

What are you currently working on, and what's next?
I’m working on a collection of floral-focused paintings that blend classical and contemporary still life. My next project will explore conceptual moments in time, incorporating figures and maybe some patterned textures.

Kit continues to push boundaries, uncovering beauty in the mundane and creating art that invites deeper connection and interpretation. Through her dedication to craft and innovation, Kit shapes a narrative that is uniquely her own.
