About the work
This painting depicts Wolf Creek Pass in Colorado, an area undergoing a significant die off of endemic evergreen swaths as the infamous Bark beetle thrives. Bark beetle outbreaks are exacerbated by warming climates, as the sustained cold temperature weather events needed to kill off beetle populations each winter are becoming a rarity in these alpine territories. The vertical lines at the bottom of the piece and within one of the structural sections are symbolic of the skeletal trees left after beetle outbreaks occur.Signature: Signed in pencil lower right and titled lower left
